e to life on October 17, 1940, as WBKY, operating with a mere 100 watts, in Beattyville, KY. In 1945, WBKY came to Lexington. In 1989, WBKY changed its call letters to WUKY to better reflect its affiliation with the University of Kentucky. WUKY helped create National Public Radio, and was one of the first stations to carry NPR's "All Things Considered" when it debuted in 1971.We're licensed to the University of Kentucky, and serve Lexington and much of central Kentucky with 100,000 watts. We stream our signal to the world, too. Listen. In early 2007, we became the first Lexington radio station to broadcast in HD - high definition, digital radio. We also debuted our first web-only radio show, "tonic," in early 2007. We air a diverse schedule. Our news comes from NPR, and our own newsroom. Our music is Triple A (also known as Adult Rock or Progressive Music). We report to Friday Morning Quarterback's non-commercial Triple A panel. Our specialty music shows encompass Women's Music, Americana, Blues, World, and more. There's humor, arts, and culture here, too. WUKY is supported by its membership: listeners who regularly give their financial support to the station. And to them we say, "Thanks!" We also thank our program underwriters, the University of Kentucky, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, who, with our members, keep listener-supported radio, 91.3 WUKY, afloat. ------ Shows: A Prairie Home Companion, All Things Considered, Car Talk (NPR), Fresh Air (NPR), Marketplace, NPR's Morning Edition, This American Life, Wait Wait, Don't Tell Me, Weekend All Things Considered, Weekend Edition Saturday, Weekend Edition Sunday, From Our Own Correspondent (R4 Edition), Global Business, One Planet, The Strand, BBC World Business News, BBC World News, Business Weekly, Calling All Pets, Heart and Soul, Politics UK, The Instant Guide, The Interview, The World Today, World Briefing, World Update, Zorba Paster On Your Health, Grateful Dead Hour, Blues Before Sunrise, Le Show, Putumayo World Music Hour, The Writer's Almanac, World Cafe, Splendid Table, American Routes, WoodSongs Old-time Radio Hour, Crossroads Radio, Sound Opinions, Adult Rock, Curtains at 8, Girls' Night Out, Joe's Blues, Saturday Show, Solo Shots ----- Hosts: Michele Norris, Robert Siegel, Melissa Block, Tom Magliozzi, Ray Magliozzi, Kai Ryssdal, Steve Chiotakis, Jeremy Hobson, Renee Montagne, Steve Inskeep, Ira Glass, Jessica Hopper, Alex Blumberg, Peter Sagal Sagal, Carl Kasell Kasell, Guy Raz, Scott Simon, Audie Cornish, Dan Damon, Ahmed Omed Khpulwak, Jamie C Here, Zorba Paster, Tom Clark, David Gans, Terry Gross, Harry Shearer, Garrison Keillor, Betsy Allister, Holly Vanderhaar, Dennis Coffey, Lloyd Cole, Steve Miller, Lynne Rossetto Kasper, Sally Swift, Nick Spitzer, Maureen Loughran, Kaori Maeyama, Dorothy Edwards, Joe Conkwright, Roger Duvall, Nick Lawrence, Rusty Sharp, Anne Deck, Alan Lytle, Gail Bennett, Brenna Angel
