Communications Commission to Texas Tech University’s Board of Regents and operates as the Educational Television Department under the auspices of the Office of the Provost at Texas Tech University. KTXT-TV is a member of the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), a noncommercial network of 349 television stations interconnected by satellite. Channel 5’s office, professional production studio, master control, transmitter and engineering facilities, plus its 817-foot antenna-tower are located on the southwestern campus triangle, west of Indiana Avenue across from the United Spirit Arena. Our digital antenna signal reaches a population of approximately 330,000 in 13 counties while cable and satellite extend our service area to a total of 21 counties. The station’s broadcast of diverse programming proudly features 49 hours of educational children’s programming each week. KTXT-TV’s focus on arts, education, community outreach and quality programming for both children and adults makes it a vital part of our community...educating, entertaining and enlightening viewers of all ages. Channel 5 provides more than broadcast services to the South Plains. The station also provides workshops for parents, caregivers and teachers; produces programs which focus on community interests; produces training materials for campus departments; and has formed partnerships with more than 15 agencies to ensure these services are made available to as many individuals as possible.
