North East Cherishes only Local Community Station
Mill, Canalside Community Radio is a local community radio station run largely by volunteers. It operates on a not-for-profit basis, has no shareholders, and relies solely on the support and donations from Sponsors and Grants. - CCR broadcast for the first time on 4th May 2005 for 28 days on a temporary licence in support of the Bollington Festival. - Our second broadcast ran from 8th December to 4th January 2005, on a temporary licence over the Christmas period. - Our third temporary broadcast was in December 2007. - After a lot of hard work, we went live on our full time 5-year licence on 4th December 2008! Our aim is to provide an enjoyable, professional listening experience whilst serving all sectors of the community by promoting community events and keeping people informed of issues and news relevant to them. At the same time, the underlying ethos of the venture was to be as accessible and beneficial as possible to all, by embracing all ages and interest groups. Our first broadcast in May 2005 was such a tremendous success that it was followed up by hundreds of letters and emails of support from listeners wishing the service to continue. It was a truly community-led venture with participation from all types of community groups, and CCR proved to be a much needed voice for members of our community. Our broadcasting area is in North East Cheshire, ie. Macclesfield, Bollington, Tytherington, Prestbury, Rainow, Sutton, Wilmslow, Alderley, Poynton and surrounding towns, village and hamlets. This gives us a potential listening audience of 70,000.
